Why single-use beats reusable on export
A reusable ratchet strap that leaves on a container to Asia is a strap you have paid for and will never see again. Across a year of export shipments, the cost of lost straps far exceeds what one-way lashing would have cost.
One-way lashing removes that entirely. You cut the band to the exact length needed, build the tie-down on the spot, and it stays with the cargo. No return logistics, no strap register, no chasing equipment across continents. And because composite band does not rust or absorb moisture, it performs in sea containers where steel strapping would corrode and mark the cargo.
How the system works
- Band on 150 m rolls — cut to length as needed, so no fixed strap lengths to stock and no waste on short runs.
- GWS 50 buckles — form the tensioned loop; the band locks against itself under load.
- GWH 50 hooks — connect to lashing points where a hooked end is required.
- S50 tensioner — applies the pre-tension. One tool serves the whole system.
Composite band versus steel strapping
Steel strapping holds tension but has real drawbacks in container work: it rusts, it marks and cuts into cargo, it snaps back dangerously when cut, and it damages container floors and walls. Composite band absorbs shock loads by stretching slightly and returning, which is exactly what you want during a long sea voyage where cargo settles and shifts. It cuts safely with a knife and leaves no sharp edges.
Correct use in practice
- Cut the band with enough length to reach the lashing point and pass back through the buckle with a working tail.
- Keep the band flat through the buckle — a twist reduces capacity at the point of highest load.
- Fit edge protection wherever the band passes over a corner; composite resists abrasion well but a sharp steel edge will still cut it.
- Tension with the S50 tool, not by hand. Hand tension is a fraction of what the system is designed to deliver.

Is it strong enough for heavy cargo? The components are rated at 5,000 kg breaking strength. For loads beyond that, or where abrasion and heat are severe, use Grade 80 chain.
